La morte di Silente
"Draco, do it, or stand aside so one of us -" screeched the
woman, but at that precise moment the door to the ramparts
burst open once more and there stood Snape, his wand
clutched in his hand as his black eyes swept the scene, from
Dumbledore slumped against the wall, to the four Death
Eaters, including the enraged werewolf, and Malfoy.
"We've got a problem, Snape," said the lumpy Amycus,
whose eyes and wand were fixed alike upon Dumbledore,
"the boy doesn't seem able -"
But someone else had spoken Snape's name, quite softly.
"Severus ..."
The sound frightened Harry beyond anything he had
experienced all evening. For the first time, Dumbledore was
pleading.
Snape said nothing, but walked forwards and pushed
Malfoy roughly out of the way. The three Death Eaters fell
back without a word. Even the werewolf seemed cowed.
Snape gazed for a moment at Dumbledore, and there was
revulsion and hatred etched in the harsh lines of his face.
"Severus ... please ..."
Snape raised his wand and pointed it directly at Dumbledore.
"Avada Kedavra!"
A jet of green light shot from the end of Snape's wand
and hit Dumbledore squarely in his chest. Harry's scream
never left him; silent and unmoving, he was forced
to watch as Dumbledore was blasted into the air: for a split
second he seemed to hang suspended beneath the shining
skull, and then he fell slowly backwards, like a great rag doll,
over the battlements and out of sight."
Queste sono decisamente le righe clou di tutto il libro; sinceramente mi è venuto un vero e proprio attacco di cuore quando le ho lette.
Ma la domanda è:
Piton ha davvero ucciso Silente?
1. Avada Kedavra?
La prima cosa che ci fa dubitare dell'effettiva morte di Silente è l'effetto che ha avuto l'Avada Kedavra su di lui. Nei libri precedenti, le vittime dell'anatema solitamente cadevano semplicemente a terra:
"He was screaming so loudly that he never heard the words the thing in the
chair spoke as it raised a wand. There was a flash of green light, a rushing sound,
and Frank Bryce crumbled. He was dead before he hit the floor." (GoF )
" From high above his head, he heard a high, cold voice say, "Kill the spare."
A swishing noise and a second voice, which screeched the words to the night: "Avada Kedavra!"
A blast of green light blazed through Harry's eyelids, and he heard
something heavy fall to ground beside him. Cedric was lying
spread-eagled on the ground beside him. He was dead." (GoF )
In questo caso, invece, Silente viene lanciato in aria e poi ricade giù dalla torre.
"... he was forced
to watch as Dumbledore was blasted into the air: for a split
second he seemed to hang suspended beneath the shining
skull, and then he fell slowly backwards, like a great rag doll,
over the battlements and out of sight."
Perché l'effetto dell'Avada Kedavra avrebbe dovuto essere diverso da tutti gli altri? Abbiamo notato che in tutto il libro viene data una grande importanza ai "non-verbal spells". Magari Piton stava davvero dicendo "Avada Kedavra", ma pensava ad un'altro incantesimo, un incantesimo che avrebbe fatto sembrare che Silente fosse morto!
Anche il titolo del capitolo "The Lightning-Struck Tower" (che è lo stesso nome della carta di cui era preoccupata la Cooman nel capitolo 25) suggerisce che l'incantesimo fosse solo un getto di scintille verdi.
2. Gli incredibili riflessi di Silente
Un'altra cosa che ci ha fatto pensare, è l'incredibile velocità del corso degli eventi:
"The door burst open and somebody erupted through it and shouted,
"Expelliarmus!" Harry's body became instantly rigid and immobile,
and he felt himself fall back against the tower wall,
propped like an unsteady statue, unable to move or speak."
Anche Harry è confuso:
He could not understand how it happened
-- Expelliarmus was not a Freezing Charm --
Then, by the light of the Mark, he saw Dumbledore's wand
flying in an arc over the edge of the ramparts and understood...
Dumbledore had wordlessly immobilzed Harry, and the second he
had taken to perform this spell had cost him the chance of defending himself.
Perché Silente ha immobilizzato Harry? Avrebbe potuto lasciarlo andare a chiamare Piton che li avrebbe aiutati e avrebbe bloccato Draco (ricordiamo che fino ad ora si pensa che Piton sia buono). Ma Silente ha immobilizzato Harry. Percgé? Magari voleva un testimone. Magari sapeva tutto ciò che sarebbe successo quella notte, che sarebbe (o avrebbe fatto finta di essere) morto e voleva che qualcuno assistisse all'evento, per raccontarlo. Se ciò fosse vero ci sono diverse opzioni successive: Piton è buono perché NON ha ucciso Silente, oppure Piton è buono perché Silente gli ha ordinato di ucciderlo, in vista di un piano per la sconfitta di Voldemort.
3. Morte generalizzata
Mentre Silente parla a Draco, il Preside gli propone un'ottima via di fuga:
"I can help you, Draco." "No, you can't," said Malfoy, his wand
shaking very badly indeed. "Nobody can. He told me to do it
or he'd kill me. I've got no choice." "He cannot kill you if you are already dead.
Come over to the right side, Draco, and we can hide you more completely
than you can possibly imagine."
Qui Silente offre a Draco ed alla sua famiglia una protezione: far sembrare che tutti siano morti ("He cannot kill you if you are already dead"). Che sia questo che Silente ha programmato per sé? Vuole che gli altri lo credano morto?
Inoltre, nella versione inglese manca una parte di testo!! (la parte in grassetto è presente solo nella versione americana)
"He told me to do it or he'll kill me. I've got no choice."
"He cannot kill you if you are already dead.
Come over to the right side Draco, and we can hide you more completely than you can possibly imagine.
What is more, I can send members of the Order to your mother tonight to hide her likewise.
Nobody would be surprised that you had died in your attempt to kill me --
forgive me, but Lord Voldemort probably expects it. Nor would the Death Eaters
be surprised that we had captured and killed your mother
-- it is what they would do themselves, after all. Your father is safe at the moment in Azkaban...
When the time comes we can protect him too. Come over to the right side, Draco...
you are not a killer..." Malfoy stared at Dumbledore.
Che J.K. Rowling abbia scritto queste righe originalmente, ma poi abbia deciso che si era spinta troppo in là? Che abbia deciso di rimuovere queste frasi, che poi sono state accidentalmente pubblicate nella versione americana?
4. E Fanny?
Fanny è sempre sbucata nei momenti di massima difficoltà: ha salvato Harry nella Camera dei Segreti, ed ha anche salvato Silente nel 5° libro. Sappiamo che Fanny era nei paraggi, visto che poi è uscita dal castello dopo la "morte" di Silente.
Questo potrebbe far pensare che Silente non volesse essere salvato, o che era tutto nel suo piano di "morire" quella notte.
5. Il Canto della Fenice
Subito dopo la morte di Silente, quando tutti si trovano in infermeria, Harry dice che è stato Piton ad ucciderlo, e lì succede qualcosa di molto importante:
"Gulping, Madame Pomfrey pressed her fingers to her mouth, her eyes wide.
Somewhere out in the darkness, a phoenix was singing in a way
Harry had never heard before; a stricken lament of terrible beauty."
E ancora:
"Harry felt, as he had felt about the Phoenix song before,
that the music was inside him, not without ... How long they stood there,
listening, he did not know, nor why it seemed to ease their pain a little to listen..."
Dopodiché entra la McGranitt, ed il cambio di argomento è immediato. Dopo aver parlato di tutto ciò che era successo quella notte, J.K. menziona nuovamente la fenice, che sta ancora cantando:
"They all fell silent. Fawkes's lament was still echoing over the dark grounds outside."
E di nuovo Harry pensa ad altro, chiedendosi dove sia ora il corpo di Silente. Dopo alcuni minuti, però:
"The corridors outside were deserted and the only sound was the distant phoenix song."
Qualsiasi cosa stesse facendo, Fanny ce la stava mettendo tutta. Ma ricordiamoci che le lacrime della fenice hanno poteri curativi! E se Silente fosse stato colpito da una falsa Avada Kedavra (come spiegato precedentemente) e poi la Fenice lo avesse aiutato? Che J.K. abbia cercato di darci qualche indizio con questi sporadici e diffusi riferimenti al continuo canto della Fenice?
6. Qualcuno ha visto la bacchetta di Silente?
All'inizio della scena con Silente e Malfoy, una delle prime cose che accadono è Silente che perde la bacchetta:
"The door burst open and somebody erupted through it and shouted,
"Expelliarmus!" ... by the light of the Mark, he saw Dumbledore's
wand flying in an arc over the edge of the ramparts ..."
Ma dov'e finita poi la bacchetta? Una bacchetta è lo strumento più importante e personale di un mago, e non si vorrebbe certamente che la propria bacchetta finisse nelle mani sbagliate...
Una volta che Silente ha perso la bacchetta, quest'ultima non viene più menzionata fino alla fine. Che non sia avvenuto perché in realtà Silente ha ancora la sua bacchetta e gli serve, perché non è veramente morto?
7. Il Corpo del Delitto
L'ultima volta che vediamo il corpo di Silente è quando Harry si china su di lui e trova il falso Horcrux. Poi il corpo di Silente riappare al funerale, ma è coperto.
"Hagrid was walking slowly up the aisle between the chairs. He was crying quite silently,
his face gleaming with tears, and in his arms, wrapped in purple velvet spangled
with golden stars, was what Harry knew to be Dumbledore's body."
Ma in realtà noi non VEDIAMO il corpo di Silente... Come facciamo a sapere che fosse realmente lì?
8. Attenzione: Silente è infiammabile
Durante il funerale, il corpo di Silente viene ricoperto dalle fiamme, e quando spariscono, si vede una tomba di marmo bianco. Ancora, noi non vediamo il corpo. Ma sopattutto, nessuno ha acceso il fuoco, il corpo ha semplicemente preso fuoco da solo.
Non ci ricorda nessuno questo?
Fanny lo fa ogni volta prima di morire, e poi rinasce dalle sue ceneri. E nel caso non avessimo colto il riferimento:
"White smoke spiraled into the air and made strange shapes:
Harry thought, for one heart-stopping moment, that he saw a phoenix
fly joyfully into the blue, but next second the fire had vanished."
Tutti questi indizi suggeriscono che se Silente è veramente morto, allora ha la capacità di ritornare come fa Fanny la Fenice.

Perciò restituii il bacio, mentre il cuore scandiva un ritmo spezzato e disordinato, il respiro si trasformava in affanno e le dita cercavano ingorde il suo viso. Sentivo il suo corpo marmoreo aderire al mio ed ero felice che non mi avesse ascoltata: non c'era dolore al mondo per cui valesse la pena di rinunciare a quell'istante. Le nostre mani riprendevano confidenza con il viso dell'altro e, nei brevi istanti in cui le labbra si separavano, lui sussurrava il mio nome....
...Tra l'altro- disse come se niente fosse- non ho intenzione di lasciarti....
...Il mio cuore non batteva da quasi novant'anni, ma stavolta è andata diversamente. Non lo sentivo più, al suo posto c'era un vuoto. Come se ti fossi portata via tutto ciò che avevo dentro.-
